A Decade Of Trail Running Fun
New distance on the bill to mark ten years of this Cotswolds classic...
Trail runners should mark their calendars as the Maverick X Series returns to the Cotswold Hills on 12 July, celebrating a decade of adventure in one of the UK’s most breathtaking landscapes. Set against the historic backdrop of Sudeley Castle, this year’s event promises to be something truly special with the addition of a brand new 50K ultra distance to mark the occasion.
Known for its spectacular trails and supportive community atmosphere, the Maverick X Series Cotswolds has earned its place as one of the must-do events on the trail calendar. All routes start from the grand Tudor castle and head straight onto a network of undulating paths through the Cotswold Hills, Britain’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The three original distances return - short (15K), middle (23K) and long (43K) - each weaving together parts of the Winchcombe Way, Gloucestershire Way and the iconic Cotswold Way. Runners can expect rolling terrain, postcard-perfect villages, wide open fields and ancient woodland with the odd steep climb thrown in for good measure. But every uphill slog comes with a reward: sweeping views across the valleys and plenty of opportunities to pause, take a breath and soak up the scenery.
The 50K ultra route will offer a new challenge for those ready to go further, taking in even more of the region’s hidden gems and offering a proper test of endurance in truly spectacular surroundings.
The Maverick event village will be buzzing throughout the day with music, food and activities for families and support crews, while visitors can also explore the beautiful Sudeley Castle and Gardens. With entries now open, organisers are encouraging runners of all levels to come and be part of this milestone edition.
