Lapping around the caravan park at the Maravan running event

Make Ready To Move At Maravan

Relay, half and full marathon to lap up at this unusual event...

If you like running and being beside the seaside then why not combine the two and take part in the Maravan over the weekend 19-20 November. Run a marathon, half or relay in a friendly, sociable environment and receive a bespoke medal.

This two-day event is organised by Vigilantes Maravan CIC and held at Thorpe Park Holiday Park which is mostly deserted during the autumn/winter months. Runners complete laps on a paved course around the caravan park whilst being cheered on by marshals, family and friends in one of the three races on offer.

Saturday sees race action in the marathon and relay – the latter open to teams of four people who run seven laps between them. There is a trophy for the winning team and medals for all the participants. Great for groups and individuals who are not quite ready or keen to run the 26.2 mile distance.

Super Saturday is followed by Super Sunday and another marathon. There is a half marathon as well which is held at the same time.

The decision is whether to do one marathon or ‘the double’ and run both? Note: this event is recognised by the 100 Marathon Club. Alternately, enter the relay on Saturday followed by the half marathon or marathon on the Sunday. There are several options to consider.

Whatever race participants choose they can expect a flat course with minimal traffic, chip timing, generous cut-off times and live results. They will be fed and watered via an aid station every 3.7 miles and there are more treats to look forward to in the post-race goody bags along with beer.

More details and how to enter can be found at the Maravan website.
