After several very successful Man V Horse competitions since 2013 the South Loch Ness Access Group have decided to pick up and run the event again in 2022. The start time will be 11. a.m. with a massed start for all runners and staggered starts for horses and riders 10 minutes later. There is a compulsory briefing at 10.30. It is a circular route of 24 km and the venue is Loch Ness Riding, Dores IV2 6TX
Static water stations will be provided at Checkpoints 1,2,3 and 4 and of course at the venue. Water for horses should be available on route in a normal year but we will try to have some available at the checkpoints too.
The winner of the competition, whether runner or rider, will receive the Jacobite Warrior Perpetual Quaich. £100 cash prize also goes to the winner. Small quaichs are presented as keepsakes to the fastest runner and the fastest rider. There is also a trophy for the fastest Woman V Horse. All competitors receive either medals (for the runners) or rosettes for the riders.
At the finish there will an array of sandwiches and cakes that are donated for competitors and helpers alike to tuck into. Donations to the charities are appreciated. This is also a chance for runners and riders to get to know each other and find out about each others sports. There will be a prizegiving at 2 pm along with the drawing of the raffle. If competitors finish after this time they will be presented with their awards when they finish.
The event will be run under the auspices of the South Loch Ness Access Group which is affiliated to the British Horse Society’s Bridleways Group.
50% of all profits (including sponsorship) will be donated to the Highland Hospice this year as our chosen charity and the other 50% will stay with the South Loch Ness Access Group to keep on with their access work in the South Loch Ness area. The proceeds of the raffle will also be divided in the same way.
The entry fee runners is £25 and £40 for horse and rider combination.
Horses must submit to all veterinary inspections as a condition of entry. Horses must be shod of booted for the duration of the event.
Parking for horses and runners will be in separate locations so please obey the parking Stewardson arrival.
Please join and use the Man V Horse facebook page to ask any questions you might have.
We hope you enjoy the event and have a great day and we raise plenty of money for our charity as times have not been good for fundraisers recently.
