LP Run

Running Tracks

The Edinburgh Running Network LP Run is back this summer...

How do you like the idea of running on a track, with some cracking tunes powering you round followed by some cake for afters? Well, we have just the race for you as Edinburgh Running Network's (ERN) LP Run will return to Meadowmill Sports Centre, near Tranent on 4 August this year.

Speaking about the event, a spokesperson from ERN said: "ERN is one of the friendliest running clubs in Scotland and we welcome entries from runners of all abilities. Not everyone has had the chance to run on a track, it is a great experience and no matter how fast or slow you are, everyone is in it together and invited for tea and cake afterwards."

The run is based on the oldest race in Houston, Texas, which has been going for over 50 years. The premise is simple, when the music starts you have 33.3 minutes to run as many laps of the track as you can (33.3 revolutions per minute being the speed of a 12” Long Play vinyl record).

Organisers told us: "When you enter you are asked to nominate a tune you'd like to hear during the run. As we're coinciding with Paris 2024 this year, what better theme to inspire your music choices than the Olympics. Don't waste your vote on Chariots of Fire, though, we've already got that so you can be more creative!"

Every entrant will receive a medal, and there will be prizes for the top finishers and other spot awards. There will also be 100m and 400m juniors races for which there is no need to register in advance just join in on the day. The whole family can get involved and go home with a coveted biscuit medal.

After the running is done, it’s time for tea, coffee and cakes, organisers ask for people to join in and bring along some baking. They say: "All savouries and sweets welcome, it doesn't have to be perfect, just tasty. For some, the hottest competition of the day is for star baker!"
