The Leeds & Liverpool Canal 130 Mile Race is a point to point ultramarathon following the full length of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal from Old Hall Street in Liverpool to Office Lock in Leeds. Organised by Canalrace C.I.C., the event is held under UK Athletics rules and offers runners the choice of competing with their own support crew or as an unsupported entrant assisted by organiser checkpoints.
Starting at 06:00 on Saturday morning, runners have 40 hours to complete the 130 mile route along the canal towpath. Regular checkpoints provide drinks throughout the race, while unsupported runners also receive food at support stations approximately every 10 to 15 miles. The course passes notable landmarks including the Burnley Embankment and Bingley Five Rise before finishing canalside in Leeds.
The Leeds & Liverpool Canal 130 Mile Race is one of the UK's classic canal ultramarathons, combining a straightforward navigational route with the physical and mental challenge of continuous long distance running. Its unique point to point format, historic waterway setting and supportive volunteer community make it a memorable goal for experienced ultrarunners seeking a demanding endurance event.
