MBNA Chester Marathon

Legions of runners expected at Chester Marathon

The Roman city of Chester will be invaded by hordes of runners this Sunday (7 October) in the Marathon, Metric Marathon and Mini Marathon events. There are still a few places remaining in the marathon butr please note the metric marathon has sold out.

Voted the UK’s best marathon/road marathon by readers of Runner’s World, the MBNA Chester Marathon is an autumn favourite for many. It is the ninth year of this top quality marathon organised by Active Leisure Events and there is plenty to look forward to whether you are a first timer or a regular participant.

The Marathon starts at 9am followed by the Metric Marathon (16.3 miles) at 10.15am then the Mini Marathon at 10.30am. All three races start from The Racecourse although the Mini Marathon, a fun run primarily for children, starts and finishes in the same location. The Marathon and Metric Marathon are held on a fast, flat course on closed roads or PB territory and there is a team of pacers ready to help runners achieve their target times.

The route features many Chester landmarks including the Cathedral, Roman Walls, the Rows and Eastgate Clock before heading into the stunning countryside around North Wales and Chester. Enthusiastic crowds line the route and there will be live bands and entertainment to motivate everyone to the finish.

Friends and families can monitor their runner’s progress via the Athlete Tracking and Live Results system and share this information on social media.

A commemorative T-shirt, medal, drinks and a goody bag will be presented to each runner at the finish. There is post-race massage and physio available in the Paddock; alternately, the bar will be open for celebratory drinks.
