The Lairig Ghru Race is one of Scotland's classic long distance hill races, organised by Deeside Runners and following the historic mountain pass between Braemar and Aviemore. Covering approximately 43K through the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, the race offers an unforgettable challenge for experienced hill runners in one of Britain's most spectacular mountain landscapes.
The point to point route follows ancient drove roads, mountain trails and rugged rocky paths as it climbs to around 835 metres through the Lairig Ghru. Competitors negotiate remote terrain including the famous Pools of Dee and boulder fields beneath some of the highest mountains in the UK, demanding strong fitness, mountain awareness and navigation skills in changing conditions.
Fully organised under Scottish hill running rules, the Lairig Ghru Race is regarded as one of the country's premier long hill races. Combining breathtaking scenery, challenging mountain terrain and a rich history, it remains a bucket list event for experienced hill runners seeking a true Cairngorm adventure.
