Kaiser Chief At Chase The Train
It was maximum horsepower from Jan Kaiser at Sunday’s (20 May) Chase The Train. Both he and Felicity Quinn steamed ahead to victories on a hot day’s racing in Norfolk.
Kaiser of City of Norwich AC crossed the finish line in 53:34 followed by Andy Mulligan of Coltishall Jaguars in 55:05. John Scoggins of City of Norwich AC came third in 56:13 making it a good first and third for the East Anglian club.
Felicity Quinn of host club North Norfolk Beach Runners won the women’s race in 56:28 and set a new course record. There was a gap of almost 15 minutes between her and Sabrina Norton of Bungay Black Dog RC who finished in 1:10:21. Conversely, only two seconds separated her from Cassie Barker of Wymondham AC who was third in 1:10:23. A close fought battle between the second and third placed women.
Entries were limited to 200 runners due to logistics. Mark Robinson of Team Manea was the midpoint runner in 1:32:53 with the last entrant finishing in 2:02:41.
Chase the Train is one of seven races from North Norfolk Beach Runners with all proceeds donated to the Stroke Association. A popular event in much the same way as Race The Train in Mid Wales where runners try to reach the finish line ahead of a steam locomotive. They followed a flat, 8.9-mile trail alongside the Bure Valley Railway, starting at Aylsham and ending at Wroxham - a journey of 45 minutes if travelling by train.
No-one beat the train although there was consolation in the form of a free trip back to Aylsham courtesy of the Bure Valley heritage railway.
