New 10K For South Lanarkshire!
Run for the animals. Run for the scenery. Run for the fun...
Runners of all abilities are invited to take part in the inaugural Ananda Animals 10K - a rural road race in the heart of South Lanarkshire’s countryside. This undulating 10K will take place on 5 April and offers runners a unique blend of scenic views, community spirit and a fantastic cause, as every entry will contribute to supporting rescued animals at Ananda Animal Sanctuary.
Starting and finishing in the historic old church grounds of Walston, the race takes runners through picturesque country roads, with clear signage and enthusiastic marshals to guide the way. Though the roads remain open to traffic, they are quiet rural routes, allowing participants to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside.
Organisers, Green Strides Fitness, say: "In a one-of-a-kind race feature, runners will pass through a loop inside Ananda Animal Sanctuary itself, where they might be cheered on by Bruce the Turkey and his feathered, furry, and fluffy friends! With over 80 rescued animals—including goats, cows, pigs, turkeys, ducks, and even a three-legged dog—this is truly a race like no other."
£2 from every entry will go directly to Ananda Animal Sanctuary, which provides a safe and loving home for animals in need. The start/finish line is located right across from the sanctuary, so runners will see first hand the animals their participation is helping.
Those taking part can look forward to a finisher’s medal and vegan-friendly goody bag as well as post race vegan-friendly food and drinks. Organisers commented: "We understand the importance of post-race fuel! That’s why we’re working with food vendors to ensure delicious, vegan-friendly options for all participants and supporters.
"Whether you’re running for a PB, the challenge or just for fun, this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a scenic race while supporting a great cause. The first edition of this race depends on strong community support, so sign up, spread the word, and stay tuned for potential event merchandise and updates!"
