London (not) Calling
Missed out on a spot at the London Marathon… again? Check out these fantastic autumn alternatives.
It's time once again for runners across the country to bore their friends and families with a familiar tale. A sorry tale of naive optimism that leads to crashing disappointment. Yes, you've guessed it, London Marathon ballot day was yesterday and with over 400,000 entrants vying for just 10,000 spots it's fair to say there are some disappointed runners out there right now.
But as they say, every cloud and all that... London may not be on the cards this year, but there are still plenty of other options for those seeking a marathon challenge this autumn. As luck would have it Destination Sport Experiences has guaranteed places for a number of these top events and they want you to join them for the race of your lifetime.
First up is Berlin Marathon on 25 September. The course passes many historic landmarks such as the Reichstag, Potsdamer Platz, Berliner Dom and the iconic Brandenburg Gate and with numerous marathon world records being set in the German capital since 1998, the PB potential is obvious.
Head across the pond for the Chicago Marathon on 9 October. Known for its fast and flat course, Chicago Marathon attracts some of the greatest runners around the world. The course offers a scenic tour of Chicago as it weaves through 29 diverse neighbourhoods and dozens of landmarks.
A bit closer to home, Dublin Marathon on 30 October promises a flat course and a friendly crowd that gives you plenty of support along the way. And if you fancy something totally different then check out details on France's unique Marathon Du Medoc which will take place on 10 September.
