Humber Half Marathon Postponed Till Autumn
It's a new date for the Humber Half...
In a blow to runners in Hull and the surrounding areas, it has been announced that the 2022 Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Fun Run will be postponed by 16 weeks until Sunday 25 September.
The delay has come about due to changes in how the traffic management for the event needed to be implemented, sadly the time frame to apply for the necessary changes meant the original date of 26 June was impossible to work toward. Race organisers have released a statement which says: "Our main aim is to ensure the safety of those that take part is our top priority."
With the change in date comes a change in format with the Half Marathon event combining with Hull Marathon and Relays in September. All distances will now all finish at Hessle High School. Organisers commented: "We have made the decision to combine the events due to the lower entry numbers across both events alongside finding a suitable alternative date for the Half Marathon at short notice."
The move from a spring to autumn date may cause havoc with some runner's training plans, those, for instance who were looking to step up to a marathon distance in the autumn and those who had planned on doing both the Half Marathon in June and then the Hull Marathon in September may be similarly disappointed at the news. But organisers stress: "We are sorry for any disappointment caused to those hoping to do both races, but we believe the combined events will be a positive this year."
Entries for the Half Marathon and Fun Run are now open again, along with those for the Marathon.
And it should be noted that the Humber Bridge 10K will still take place on 19 June. Places for that race are available here.
