Race into action at inaugural Hatfields Shrewsbury 5K
New 5K is one of four events at the Shrewsbury Running Festival
Ultimate Fitness Events, the organisers of the first Hatfields Shrewsbury Running Festival have announced a short and swift race alongside the River Severn that will get the competitive juices flowing! Runners of all ages are invited to put the river course to the test in the Hatfields Shrewsbury 5K on Saturday 21 August as part of an inclusive weekend of racing.
There will be two days of run and fun and possibly a new course record or two as participants in the 10K, 5K, 2K Relay and 1 Mile Time Trial make the most of the courses and the festival atmosphere especially after the year we’ve had. Throw in warm weather to the mix and it will be a summer weekend to remember.
The 5K starts/finishes at the distinctive blue gates in Quarry Park. Utilising wave starts, the runners will stream away downhill to the Hercules statue then left along Victoria Avenue and continue along the river. The route continues under the English Bridge to the Weir before turning around and heading back to the park. Runners will be cheered on by spectators - just like the good old days before the pandemic - as they sprint across the finish line. There are bespoke medals and running buffs for the finishers.
Any runner who hasn’t broken themselves in the 5K can follow this with the 2K Relay as part of a team of 4 or alternately, go all out for a PB in the 1 Mile Time Trial.
Spaces are limited in the 5K. Enter via the Ultimate Fitness Events website.
