Young runner shows how it is done at Hereford parkrun

New junior parkrun ready to shine at Hereford

Youngsters to get their own event from Sunday.

Hereford is to host another parkrun, this one for juniors only which launches on Sunday 29 May at 9am. Youngsters aged 4-14 run, skip or walk 2K in a friendly and safe environment and volunteers will encourage them every step of the way to the end.

This new event takes place at Hereford Leisure Centre which is also the location for the adult parkrun. Starting near to the athletics track (also the site for the finish), the accurately measured 2K course is a flat out and back affair on gravel paths making it easy to run on and there are plenty of marshals along the route. Then a dash to the finish accompanied by a round of applause as their time is recorded.

Some children will race around as quickly as possible, others may prefer to stay with their parent/s and take their time. Both are fine. All are welcome whatever their ability as the emphasis is on having fun whilst being active in the company of others. It is also perfect for any child who plays a sport as it will improve their fitness and boost their confidence.

Any child wanting to take part needs to register beforehand and get a barcode. They and their parents bring this on the day where it will be scanned at the finish and get their time in return. No barcode, no time is the rule.

Run Director (and Hereford Couriers RC Club Chairman) Jonathan Edwards and his team are looking forward to the junior parkrun making its debut and the benefits it will bring. Roll on Sunday!
