Running Roadmap

Seventh SA virtual challenge goes the distance with a 26.2

Marathon finally added to popular lockdown series

After the successful introduction of a half marathon distance event to the fourth edition of their virtual road running series at the end of January, scottishathletics have gone the distance and added a marathon to their next challenge.

The seventh virtual Tru Wealth scottishathletics road challenge will be held from midnight on Friday 26 March through to 11.59pm on Monday, 29 March.

All age groups from U11 through to masters can compete this time, with 10K, Half Marathon or full marathon options available for senior competitors on up.

All athletes must follow current Scottish government guidelines for their age groups when taking part in these ‘semi-competitive’ events. With the recent relaxation of restrictions, club group runs organised and supervised by a UKA qualified coach are acceptable.

Entries close this Thursday, 25 March; submissions must be made by noon next Tuesday, 30 March. Results will be presented individually by age group as well as for teams of three runners of any gender per age group.

Nearly 150 runners logged times for the 10k alone in the sixth edition of the virtual race series, held at the beginning of March. Bellahouston RR A took the 10K mixed team prize, followed by Greenock Glenpark Harriers A and Garioch RR A.

Senior runner Grant Murphy (32.47) of Bellahouston RR topped the all-ages table, followed by John Redding (33.28) of Linlithgow AC, who also topped the veterans’ virtual podium. Murphy’s clubmate Tony Connelly (33.29) came third.

In the women’s division, veteran Michelle Sandison (36.52) of Shetland AAC took top honours and 16th place overall.
