The Gelston 5 Mile Road Race is organised by Dumfries Running Club and takes place during Castle Douglas Civic Week. The event starts at Lochside Park in Castle Douglas and follows an accurately measured 5M route through the surrounding Dumfries and Galloway countryside.
The certified road course winds along quiet, undulating country roads, passing through the village of Gelston before returning towards Castle Douglas. After a testing uphill section, runners are rewarded with a downhill finish beside Carlingwark Loch.
The race is held under Scottish Athletics and UK Athletics rules and benefits from experienced club organisation. The combination of a scenic rural course, community atmosphere and Civic Week celebrations makes this a distinctive fixture in the local racing calendar.
