Midlands Spitfire 10K 2023

Up In The Air

Sprout wings in Shropshire this August at Midlands Spitfire 10K...

The Midlands Spitfire 10K is all set to return to the RAF Museum in Shifnal in Shropshire on 27 August. This unique event gives runners the opportunity to honour a Battle of Britain pilot and your support for this event enables the RAF Museum, a registered charity, to tell the inspiring stories of RAF personnel including 'The Few,' the courageous Battle of Britain pilots and crew who fought in the skies above Britain in 1940.

There'll be a new route for this year's event which is delivered by Nice Work in partnership with the RAF Museum in Cosford. Runners will spend more time on the airfield itself, starting outside Hangar 1 before heading onto the RAF Cosford technical area. It’s a unique opportunity to run alongside the wartime hangars, the air traffic control tower and to make that final sprint down the runway.

The RAF Cosford badge displays an oak tree with the motto 'Seul Le Premier Pas Coute', which translates to 'only the beginning is dificult' so it should be an easy old run for participants!

One of the most popular elements of the race are the 'Roll of Honour' cards. These enable runners to carry the name of a Battle of Britain pilot with them on their run. Runners will receive their 'Roll of Honour' card in their race pack.  Organisers actively encourage runners to share details with family and friends on social media and beyond to keep alive the memory of their brave pilot.

The 10K starts at 10 a.m. and runners will be rewarded with a sustainable wooden medal which features a unique aircraft design. If you choose to fundraise and hit a £100 fundraising pledge then you'll also receive a free technical t-shirt and a goody bag as soon as you reach your pledge total.
