Final lap for Rockingham 10
The chequered flag waved for the last time at Sunday’s (4 November) Rockingham 10 from SBR Events. Runners put their foot down on this fast, flat circuit with an end of season PB in their sights.
Rockingham Motor Speedway, Northamptonshire has been sold to undisclosed investors making Sunday’s race the final opportunity to compete at this iconic venue. Billed as Europe’s fastest racing circuit, it was an ideal venue for target times due to the smooth, traffic-free tarmac course.
This was the 5th year of the Rockingham 10 with three distances to choose from: 5K (one lap), 10K (2 laps) and 10 Miles (3.5 laps) and all started at 1pm. The 10 mile course record is 52:29 posted by Nathaniel Williams in 2014. In addition to this, the Rockingham 10 was chosen as the Northamptonshire Athletics Association (NAA) race for the County 10 Mile Championship.
In the 5K, Lucy Watts of Wellingborough & District AC was first over the line in 19:49 with Darren Goode second in 20:19.
John Uff won the 10K in 34:58; Natasha Brown of Kettering Town Harriers was the winning lady in 45:44.
The 10 Mile was won by Kevin Holland of Crawley AC in 56:09 - the 2014 course record still stands. Sarah Bird of Redway Runners was the fastest female in 1:10:29.
Lakelands Hospice was the official charity partner and supported the race by providing volunteers and marshals. The charity is are unable to hold their 2019 Brass Monkey running event at Rockingham due to the closure so in a nice gesture the organisers asked for donations to boost this year’s fundraising efforts.
