Felix McGrath And Claire Martin Win New Oswestry 10K

Felix & classy Claire get the cream at new Oswestry 10K

The new Oswestry 10K got off to a flying start on Sunday 13 October. It was a red letter day for Felix McGrath and Claire Martin, who like the rest of the field enjoyed effusive support around the course

The Oswestry 10K was organised by Adrenaline Sporting Events who encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in their activities. This inclusive ethos is reflected in their hashtag #ChallengeYourself and around 950 runners did just that, coming out of their comfort zones on an undulating course in wet weather.

The rain didn’t detract from a successful debut at this Shropshire market town close to the Welsh border. There was a sense of excitement as runners gathered on Church Street where a warm up took place at 8.45am followed by the start of the race at 9am.

They followed an attractive route on closed roads that looped around the town and contained a couple of hills as well as some steady paced sections. Spectators and marshals clapped and cheered everyone as they continued on their way to the finish on Church Street.

Felix McGrath of Bristol and West AC won this inaugural Oswestry 10K in 31:44. Jack Pickett of Wolverhampton & Bilston AC was second in 32:03 followed by Jimmy Kershaw in 33:04.

Claire Martin of Telford AC looked in control as she won the women’s race in 37:31. She was followed by Bethan Jones of Oswestry Olympians in 40:00 with Lauren Morley third in 41:36.

There were 944 finishers who were presented with water, a goody bag and an iconic medal featuring WWI poet and soldier Wilfred Owen who was born in Oswestry.
