The first ten recipients of scottishathletics' Eric Liddell Recognition Awards have been announced and among them is David Scott, founder of Fit Like Joggers based in Aberdeen.

The awards form part of the Eric Liddell 100 programme of events and activities to recognise and celebrate the life, sporting and community service achievements of one of Scotland’s iconic figures. scottishathletics will be awarding 20 Eric Liddell Recognition Awards’ throughout the year to celebrate some of the outstanding individuals that contribute to athletics in Scotland.

scottishathletics CEO, Colin Hutchison, said: "Eric Liddell is remembered as much for his values and strength of character as his sporting success and I’m delighted that we’re able to recognise some of the incredible people in our sport who continue to uphold those values and his legacy."

David founded the Fit Like Joggers in 2016, and has worked tirelessly to build it up to one of the biggest, and most established running clubs in Scotland. Leading two couch to 5K programmes a year, with up to 40 people in each intake, there is a constant influx of new members. David leads and inspires the huge team of volunteers, as well as planning social, educational and running events such as litter picking runs, foodbank runs, podiatry talks, menopause talks, Nuart art tours, and many other events this year alone.

David has not always been a runner, having only started in 2010, to keep his brother company. After a few local events, David found himself heading towards the world of ultra-marathons, having now done over 30 across Scotland, including the 95 mile West Highland Way race, and the 214-mile Race Across Scotland.

David's passion remains in helping people to begin their running journey, he says: "The Couch to 5K Programme (especially with the FLJs) can have such a transformational role in people's lives, and it is so rewarding to see people succeed."
