Time To Shine On The Showground

Grab some running chums and enter this relay great Staffordshire event...

Entries are now open for this year's Showground Relays, set to return to Staffordshire County Showground on 10 June with organisers promising another lively evening of team racing, competition and fun. The event, held just four miles from Stafford on the A518 towards Uttoxeter, continues to grow in popularity and last year attracted around 300 teams and 1,200 runners, making it one of the biggest editions to date.

The relays follow a simple but inclusive format, with teams of four runners each completing a two mile leg on a course made up of tarmac drives and solid woodland paths. The event is open to a wide range of participants, from running clubs and seasoned athletes to groups of friends, families, work colleagues and members of other sports clubs.

There is a strong competitive element, with trophies awarded to the fastest male and female teams and medals for all finishers. Team prizes are available across a wide range of categories, including open men’s, women’s and mixed teams, as well as several veteran age group categories. There are also junior races for runners aged 16 and under, alongside categories for workplace teams and families.

Organisers say: "The variety of categories means there is a genuine opportunity for many teams to compete for honours, helping to make our event accessible as well as competitive. One of our more light hearted traditions is the Best Team Name award, which in 2025 went to West Bromwich Harriers for their entry 'Pass the battenberg' - can you do better?"

Off the course, the event has built a reputation for its relaxed and social atmosphere, with an on site café and shop open throughout the evening serving hot and cold food and drinks.
