Winter Run to bring carnival fun to Edinburgh

Organisers hope to create a ‘party atmosphere’ this January with fancy dress, good tunes and great vibes

The Edinburgh Winter Run – an inclusive, fun-filled day of events including a 5K run, Family Mile and Toddler Dash – will return to Holyrood Park on Saturday, 15 January.

Hoping to bring some colour to what has been a dreary few years for everyone, organisers Durty Events are encouraging all participants to come ‘resplendent in fancy dress’, as they attempt to host the largest fancy dress fun run in the UK.

The chip-timed 5K race, suitable for both fun runners and competitive athletes, follows an undulating single lap course around the iconic Arthur’s Seat. The Family Mile takes place on a flat out-and-back stretch of Queen’s Drive, and is the perfect opportunity to introduce children to running and exercising together as a family. The third race, the Toddler Dash, is a 100m ‘dash for the line’ for younger children accompanied by an adult.

In addition to the three running events, samba and steel bands will be giving it their all against the stunning backdrop of Arthur’s Seat, while local radio DJs will motivate and entertain runners throughout the day. A variety of stalls selling food, drink and merchandise will help keep the party vibes going.

Getting the party started, Founder of Durty Events Paul McGreal told runABC Scotland: “We can’t wait to have some fun and see smiles on faces after such a disruptive couple of years. We intend to go all out with a carnival atmosphere and really dial up the enjoyment factor for everyone, whether they’re participating or spectating.

“We’re inviting everyone to come in fancy dress – although it’s not compulsory – and really hope we can make history as one of the largest fancy dress fun runs in the UK. It’s time to run with fun and we want as many people as possible to be part of it.”
