Act Fast For Edinburgh

Act fast to secure your place at 2026's Edinburgh Marathon or Half Marathon...

Time is running out for anyone hoping to secure a place in the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon or Half Marathon, with entries expected to reach capacity by the end of the month and organisers warning that the sell-out could come even sooner! The races will take place on 24 May as part of Scotland’s biggest running festival, which attracts tens of thousands of runners to the capital each year.

The Edinburgh Marathon is famous for its fast and flat profile and has been voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Runner’s World. The route starts at Potterrow before weaving past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, then heading east along the scenic coastline to Musselburgh where runners finish to huge crowds and a vibrant festival atmosphere.

The Half Marathon also starts at Potterrow and offers similarly impressive PB potential. The opening downhill section leads into a flat, fast course that carries runners all the way to the Musselburgh finish line. For first-timers, it is considered one of the most welcoming and enjoyable half marathons in the country.

The festival weekend starts a day earlier on 23 May and includes several other events including 10K and 5K races in Holyrood Park, both starting and finishing near Dynamic Earth they offer panoramic views of Edinburgh and the castle. Junior races also bring young runners into the heart of the action.

If you're planning a spring time challenge of a marathon or half marathon then make sure you act quick to secure your spot!
