The Edinburgh Half Marathon is part of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and offers a fast point-to-point road course from Edinburgh city centre to Musselburgh.
Starting at Potterrow beside the University of Edinburgh, runners head through the Old Town past Greyfriars Kirkyard and across the Royal Mile, with Edinburgh Castle and St Giles’ Cathedral among the early landmarks. The route continues through Princes Street Gardens before returning towards the Royal Mile, Scottish Parliament, Holyrood and views of Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags.
From the city, the course heads east towards the coast and Portobello promenade before continuing through Musselburgh and into East Lothian. Runners pass Musselburgh Links and continue towards Prestonpans before turning back towards the finish at Pinkie School.
The course descends by almost 90 metres towards sea level and is predominantly flat, giving the Edinburgh Half Marathon strong PB potential as well as making it an attractive option for first-time Half Marathon runners.
