The Irish Life Dublin Marathon takes runners on a 26.2 mile journey through Ireland’s capital, starting on Leeson Street Lower and finishing on Mount Street Upper. The route explores a broad sweep of the city, passing historic streets, well known landmarks, residential neighbourhoods and some of Dublin’s most recognisable green spaces.
Runners follow a varied road course through areas including the Liberties, Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Inchicore, Terenure and Clonskeagh. The course mixes flatter stretches with gradual climbs and more testing sections, while support from spectators and local communities builds throughout the route and into the closing miles towards the city centre.
First held in 1980, the Dublin Marathon has grown into one of Ireland’s largest and best known running events, attracting runners from Ireland and around the world. Its combination of a full city course, enthusiastic roadside support and a central Dublin finish gives the race a distinctive atmosphere and makes it a major fixture in the autumn marathon calendar.
