The Dovedale Dash is a 4.75 mile cross country race through Thorpe and Dovedale in the Derbyshire Peak District. Starting from Thorpe Pastures, the route heads into the valleys of the River Dove and River Manifold, following field paths and open ground through the surrounding countryside.
Runners can expect varied natural surfaces, fast descents, narrow sections and changing conditions underfoot. A defining feature is the crossing of the River Dove beside the famous Dovedale Stepping Stones, where runners head directly through the water before continuing around the valley. Open fields, riverside running and uneven terrain create a distinctive challenge.
The Children's Mini Dash provides a separate 1.25 mile race around the foot of Thorpe Cloud for younger runners. The main Dovedale Dash regularly attracts a large field, with its mass start, Peak District setting and famous river crossing giving the event its distinctive character.
