Will You Double Or Quit?
Don't miss your chance to enter this unique charity event...
Time is running out to grab yourself a spot at one of Derbyshire's most altruistic events - the Double Or Quit, a 5 mile race where participants have the choice of running two laps or one around Shipley Park in Heanor. Whatever they choose on 26 August, all profits will go to charity.
Hosted by Ilkeston Running Club, the Double or Quit charity race is an annual event in which those taking part have to make a big decision. Run (or Nordic Walk) two 5 mile laps or turn left at the split point and head for the finish after one 5 mile lap. Both have to be completed within the time limit of 2 hours 15 minutes.
This may sound straightforward; however, the route is challenging multi-terrain which includes a long steep climb up ‘Cardiac Hill’ and a few others to get the blood pumping! There are motivational signs to lift the spirits as participants run or walk up the hills and marshals will provide an additional boost in the form of words of encouragement.
The 5pm start time means there is enough time to do parkrun in the morning before heading over to Shipley Country Park for a few more miles. The start and finish is the same for participants in the 5 and 10 mile as they complete their distances within the deadline.
To date the event has raised £16,600 for charitable causes, in 2022 it was Prostate Cancer that benefited and this year money raised will go to the Treetops Hospice.
Race organisers comment: "We all know times are tough at the moment and events like ours are a luxury. What we pride ourselves on at Ilkeston RC is running a challenging but enjoyable event with all profits going to charity. The mixture of 5 and 10 miles gives runners a choice and potential for the race to reach a broader audience."
