Debbie Praises Her Inspirations

We recently brought you the story of how Balloch fitness instructor Debbie Savage completed her final world marathon major at the Tokyo Marathon. Now the 41-year-old has paid tribute to two of her running friends who inspired her to the feat.

Becky Beale and Jan Fellowes are also members of Helensburgh Running Club and both also completed Toyko Marathon alongside Debbie.

Debbie credits both her club mates for playing a huge part in her journey to complete all six races – Berlin, Boston, Chicago, London, New York and Tokyo.

“Both Becky and Jan have really inspired my running and I know they both really inspire others too with their enthusiasm and passion for running,” she explained.

“Jan also completed her sixth major at Tokyo, she’s had big achievements in running including winning the W60 bronze medal at the World Masters in South Korea and she was also part of the team which won gold in the Masters in Perth Australia.

“Becky is an amazing girl, she runs a mixture of marathons and ultra-races, this summer she will take on over 90 miles when she runs the West Highland Way. She started her running journey with the Glasgow 10K in 2005 and has been running ever since.

“Completing the final major marathon and receiving the six star medal was a big achievement for Jan and myself. I know I couldn't have done it had it not been for Becky and Jan - they are both truly inspiring!"
