Fly to a PB at the Cosford Spitfire 10K
A well organised, speedy race around the Shropshire RAF airfield.
Reach for the skies at the Cosford Spitfire 10K on Sunday 28 August and achieve your fastest time whilst supporting the RAF Museum Midlands. An opportunity to run past famous aircraft along the runway followed by a victory roll across the finish line.
The weekend 27-28 August sees two fighter plane races from organisers Nice Work. There is the London Spitfire 10K on Saturday (27 August) then the Cosford Spitfire 10K on Sunday (28 August). Land a PB at either of these races and celebrate on Bank Holiday Monday (29 August).
There is the popular option to run in remembrance of a Battle of Britain pilot by wearing their name on your running top/vest. A Roll of Honour card is sent out which you use to find out as much as possible about your pilot and share on social media.
Many people enter into the spirit of things by dressing up in themed outfits, for example a flying helmet and goggles. Or up the ante like one participant in last year’s race who ran whilst wearing a spitfire! This was, not surprisingly, the best costume on the day.
Children are welcome to get their wings in either of the two Family Runs. The Family Dash is a nice and easy 1K for the youngest who can walk, skip or run with their parents. The slightly longer 2K Family Run is timed and there are prizes for the fastest in each age group.
The 10K starts at 10.15am from outside Hangar One and continues on a loop around the site, passing a Hercules airplane amongst others before zooming into the airfield. It flies past WWII hangars and the control tower then up and down the runway and back to the finish where top quality medals will be handed out.
Round off the day by exploring the museum including the immersive Flight Zone.
