Cartmel Trail Runner

Cartmel Racing Fun

A day at the races is just what you get when you sign up to this Lake District event...

Cartmel Racecourse is a fantastic racing venue whether you are horse or human and it is once again the venue for Lakeland Trails' Cartmel Trail Races which will this year take place on 28 September. Its great for spectators too - the imposing grandstand is ideal to watch runners from and the views of the South Cumbrian fells are spectacular.

The event offers 5K, 10K and 18K distances over the gently rolling trails around Cartmel with the routes offering lovely views over Morecambe Bay. Organisers say: "The races run from 5K to 18K, with Race and Challenge options for the latter, so you can either pit yourself against the more competitive runners or challenge yourself to run or walk as fast as you choose.

"And why not round off your day with a world-famous Sticky Toffee Pudding in one of the Michelin-starred restaurants in the village?"

Cartmel is a great way to prepare for the more technical trails of Helvellyn and Ullswater as everything's just that little bit tamer with all of the climbs of a gentle gradient allowing you to find your rhythm and enjoy the far-reaching views of Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland Fells.

A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed for both spectators and competitors, with live music, race commentary, food and drink all available at the start and finish. So, whether you're new to trail running, an experienced athlete, or simply looking for an unforgettable day out in the Lake District, a family-friendly, festival atmosphere and some amazing trail running awaits you.
