The Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the UK’s largest road races, taking runners on a 13.1 mile journey through the heart of the Welsh capital. Starting on Castle Street outside Cardiff Castle, the fully closed road course showcases many of Cardiff’s best known landmarks and neighbourhoods before reaching the finish in the Civic Centre.
Runners follow a predominantly flat and fast course past the Principality Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium before heading through Penarth, across Cardiff Bay Barrage and into Cardiff Bay. The route then heads north towards Roath Park Lake before returning to the city centre, providing a varied urban course well suited to first time half marathon runners and those chasing faster times.
The race is known for its large field and extensive spectator support, with entertainment and live music adding atmosphere around the course. Kilometre markers, feed stations and pacers support runners throughout the Half Marathon, while chip timing and live tracking record progress from start to finish. The Cardiff Half Marathon also forms part of the international SuperHalfs series, attracting runners from across the UK and overseas.
