Brighton Marathon Mini Mile 2019

Brighton's big weekend is postponed to September

September date for Brighton Marathon Weekend

Don't you just love the enthusiasm and determination in the faces of the competitors in the Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Mini Mile at last year's Brighton Marathon Weekend? Now all that pent up energy will have to be contained for just a few months longer as this year's event has been postponed until the autumn.

With up to 25,000 anticipated runners, Brighton Marathon Weekend was one of the largest scale domestic events to fall foul of the Coronavirus restrictions. The original dates of 17-19 April have now been postponed to 18-20 September 2020.

The 11th annual south coast classic was expecting to host an estimated 150,000 visitors across the weekend to the famous Regency seaside city of Brighton and Hove. Brighton Marathon 2019 had 16,651 official finishers, making this the 8th largest marathon in Europe. The supporting BM10K, with 3,335 finishers, hosted the English Championships and nearly 2,000 ran the Mini Mile races.

Thanking competitors for their forbearance and support at a very challenging time for mass participation events, The Grounded Events Company posted the following statement on the race website: “Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked to understand our position during this very difficult time. We have been overwhelmed by the comments and words of support from so many of you”. The statement concluded on a positive note: “We are working hard to put on a great Brighton Marathon Weekend in September and hope you can join us in Brighton for the rescheduled event!”

Last year's Brighton Marathon winners were Peter Le Grice (Bristol & West AC) with a British athlete's course record 2:16:22 and defending champion Helen Davies (Ipswich Jaffa, 2:34:11). BM10K produced course records for Nick Goolab (Belgrave Harriers, 28:22) and Steph Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District, 31:57).
