Top Race Brewing In North East
The BrewDog Summer Run sounds like a fantastic way to spend a Saturday in June...
Organised by the Fit Like Joggers, the BrewDog Summer Run (8 June) starts at BrewDog’s Castlegate in Aberdeen and finishes at their Overworks brewery and restaurant in Ellon. Voted the UK's Best Fun Run in the 2020 Running Awards, this event began in 2016, and is so popular it now takes place three times a year. Combining beer and running, what more could you ask for?
The route is largely flat, heading through the Granite City via Dyce, and along the old railway line to Peterhead and Fraserburgh that is now the Formartine and Buchan Way long-distance path. Organisers say: "This is a fun run - not a race. Based on previous events, the expectation is that the Summer Run will take around 3.5 to 4 hours to complete.
If the full run seems a bit much, then you can start at Dyce, and reduce the distance to 15 miles. Either join the group in Castlegate for a briefing and then hop on a train, or meet at the Dyce checkpoint for 11.30am.
Runners need to be relatively self sufficient during the event, however there will be two drinks stations en route (stocked with beer, snacks and water!).
On arrival at the DogTap finish line, participants have the use of the museum room at the back, or if the sun is shining, there is plenty of outdoor space. It is here that runners will receive a hand made medal and a great goody bag containing a special edition t-shirt, beer, snacks, water, and more.
BrewDog runs are now held three times a year, in June, October and at Christmas. As the organisers say: “There’s nothing better than meeting new people on a run, and sharing stories, miles and beer together. The primary focus is on having a leisurely and friendly run. That means we encourage people to wait at junctions, re-group, support one another, and keep at a pace that you can maintain a conversation.
“There is no prize for coming first (other than the best seat in the bar – although you then have to buy the first round). There is no timing, and no hurry.”
