Bedford Run Fest

Bedford Run Fest is back to its best

Just over 100 days to the big Bedford bash

Those busy bees at Bedford have been highly active during lockdown, giving Bedford Running Festival (3-5 September 2021) a complete makeover and ensuring that all bases are covered in the run-up to the London Marathon. Additional capacity has recently been added so general entries have been reopened for a limited time only.

It could be argued the newly-styled Bedford Run Fest actually starts on Sunday 18 July with the Bedford 10K – a one-off test event for the full-fat Bedford Run Fest. Places are limited to 500 and are already more than half sold. Bedford 10K features an Event Village HQ in Russell Park and the race follows a flat, fast course around the lakes and waterways that make this such a pleasant area to visit.

As our runABC South race report on the 2019 event states, there were more than 5,000 runners at the three-day festival when it was last held. A packed programme included street food, an open-air cinema, yoga classes and 2,517 finishers in the Bedford Half Marathon.

After a Covid-enforced fallow year in 2020, Bedford Run Fest is back to its best and has been further expanded to include two half marathons and a new 20 miler. The postponed Bedford Spring Marathon has been shoehorned into the Saturday programme between Bedford 5K and Bedford Twilight 10K.

Meanwhile, Sunday will see the original Bedford Half Marathon take centre stage alongside a brand new Bedford 20 – the perfect shakedown four weeks before the Virgin Money London Marathon.

Exact details are being finalised as the vaccination programme and subsequent escape from Covid lockdown measures continues to gather pace but visitors can expect a superb Event Village in Priory Country Park and a family-friendly events programme with live music, open-air cinema, yoga and wellness classes, street food market and inspirational talks.

For anyone unable to make the venue or still not sure about attending live racing there is a Bedford Virtual Run option open from 21 August to 18 September 2021.
