Be In The Running Loop
We are over half way through July and the heatwave shows no sign of letting up. It’s another warm and sunny weekend (21-22 July) for racing and especially for those taking part in multi-lap events. Stay hydrated and adjust your pace.
If you are all fired up, release that pent up energy at Saturday’s Iron Ram Obstacle Course Race (OCR) in Tamworth, Staffordshire. This is a sprint rather than a distance event with entrants facing a 1.2km challenge that requires strength, determination and agility as well as speed. There are four rounds to complete with the winners of those going through to the final.
24 hour events are all the rage with one of the most popular occurring this weekend at Catton Park in Walton-upon-Trent, Derbyshire. The 10th Conti Thunder Run is open to solos, pairs and teams of 3 to 5 and teams of 6 to 8. It starts at 12 noon Saturday and finishes at 12 noon Sunday and is held on a technical course consisting of fields, woodlands and trails with amusing signs to keep everyone going. The dry conditions will be a welcome relief after last year’s mud.
Staying with the lap theme we have The Wild One, another off-road event open to solos, pairs and teams at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester. The aim is to complete 10 x 2.62 mile loops for a marathon or new for this year, run as many loops possible within 7 hours in the Ultra Wild One. Entrants are encouraged to wear fancy dress with this year’s theme TV characters.
