Brass Monkey Half Marathon

Brass Monkey Ballot Opens Soon

Time to go to the ballot and hope for a place at 2025's Brass Monkey Half...

Historically runners have had to be quick off the mark to bag a spot at the perenially popular Brass Monkey Half Marathon but it is a bit easier these days thanks to the ballot entry system that was introduced for the 2024 event. It proved a success and so the ballot for the 2025 race will open on 26 September Why not make a date in your diary and maybe you will be a part of the race action on 19 January.

The ballot for the race will close on 30 September, meaning you have a few days to get your entry in. Organisers tell us: "The random draw will take place on 1 October, and all applicants will receive an email that day with the result. If you got a place then you will have three days to accept and pay. Any entries not taken up will be offered to the next people on the randomly drawn list on 4 October."

Whether you are a keen club runner, doing your first half, or just running for fun, this road race is ideal. A flat and fast course with 1,750 places available heading southwards through Bishopthorpe, Acaster Selby, Appleton Roebuck and back through Bishopthorpe to finish behind the Racecourse grandstand.

It attracts runners from around the country thanks to the fast course, but also due to its slick organisation by York Knavesmire Harriers and top notch race day marshals. The accolades are plenty, but this comment from 2024 runner Valerie Pell sums up what many others think: "Great event, so well organised thanks to everyone involved. The marshalls were amazing!"
