Alton's Off Road Adventure
This Staffordshire off-road event offers a true test for trail runners young and old...
With over 30 years of history, the Alton Run remains one of Staffordshire’s must-do off-road races. The event is back for 2025 on 13 September, promising another thrilling off-road adventure through the stunning landscapes of Dimmingsdale and the Churnet Valley.
The event offers two distances; the Alton 10K Challenge and 2-mile Fun Run. Both races start outside the White Hart community pub in Alton, the hub of the event where post-run refreshments will be available. The 10K Challenge, open to participants aged 14 and over, kicks off at 11am, with the 2-mile Fun Run following shortly after.
Staying true to its roots, the course remains a multi-terrain challenge, minimising tarmac in favour of gravel tracks and trails. Runners will experience a breathtaking route that passes through the historic grounds of Alton Castle, descends into the Churnet Valley along the old railway line, crosses Lord’s Bridge and weaves through the enchanting woodland of Dimmingsdale before tackling a challenging uphill finish back towards the White Hart.
Organisers comment: "We are delighted that the Kenelm Youth Trust have again kindly given us permission to run through the grounds of Alton Castle – creating an excellent course through some fantastic scenery. Whether you’re in it for the challenge, the scenery, or the camaraderie at the finish line, this is an event not to be missed!"
