Accrington on course for biggest event yet
This Sunday (28 October) will see Accrington Road Runners host what looks set to be their largest 10k race to date. According to the club, a unique medal, which illustrates landmarks from Accington, plus the introduction of a junior race, has contributed to the upturn in entries this time round.
Departing from The Walton Arms on Burnley Road, Sunday’s field will enjoy a relatively speedy course that offers a grandstand finish with the last 1.5 miles being a fast descent.
Last year saw Blackburn Harriers’ Ben Fish take top spot in 32:46 with Danny Collinge (34:12) and Jeff Prest (34:12) following. Fish’s clubmate, Pauline Powell, claimed first place in the female competition in 37:40, with Carla Davies (38:04) and Victoria Mousley (39:46) in second and third respectively.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s race, Accrington Road Runners told runABC North: “We couldn’t be more excited about it - entries are higher than this time last year. The bespoke medal, the tech t-shirt and addition of junior race have certainly contributed to what looks like will be our biggest event yet.
“We always raise money for the East Lancs Hospice but this year we will make a donation to the Lakes and Lancashire Blood Bikes too! They come along on the day to make the running pack more visible."
Keep an eye out for runABC North’s race report early next week.
