Abbott Trail Run

Be a Hero in Hopwas Woods

Head to Hopwas Woods to take on a trail race that helps to improve the lives of children with life-limiting illnesses...

Stunning views across Staffordshire are guaranteed at the Abbott Trail Run which this year is scheduled for 28 July. For those who like to experience more than just a 'pretty vista' those taking part can also look forward to a challenging course, finisher's medal and post-race BBQ.

The event offers both 5K and 10K distances with both these trail runs taking place in Hopwas Woods, a beautiful ancient woodland situated in the district of Lichfield. This location offers a mixture of natural single tracks, dirt tracks and some short steep descents, perfect terrain for this type of event and the route takes in some wonderful scenery.

Back at race HQ, spectators can take advantage of refreshments and a BBQ as they wait for their runner to finish. And of course, once over the line, the runners can enjoy a burger (or two) and they will all receive a medal and goody bag.

The race is hosted by Tamworth charity Simon’s Heroes with all profits going towards improving the lives of children with life-limiting illnesses. Organisers say: "This event will help to generate much needed funds for and awareness about the group, as well as providing some muddy-ish fun on natural trails."

The event is dedicated to Karen Abbott, a dearly loved member of the charity, who passed away in 2016. Karen made a huge contribution to Simon's Heroes, having participated in countless races, raising funds and offering her support when needed.
