Water Great Race!

This charity-focused event returns to Swinsty Reservoir this September...

Runners are invited to take part in the Tilbury Douglas Yorkshire Run for WaterAid on 21 September, with both 5K and 10K options available on the scenic paths around Swinsty Reservoir near Harrogate.

The event, organised in partnership with Yorkshire Water, raises vital funds for WaterAid, helping to provide clean water and safe sanitation to communities in underprivileged countries. This year, all proceeds will support projects in Ethiopia, with the aim of bringing clean water to 130,000 people.

Organisers told us: "New for 2025, we have secured a UK Athletics (UKA) licence, meaning results will be eligible for inclusion on Power of 10 and can count towards local championship competitions. This is something that has been requested a lot so we’re excited about it."

Located in the Washburn Valley on the southern edge of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Swinsty Reservoir offers an accessible, largely flat running route with just one moderate hill. The course follows a mix of roads, paths and short stretches of flat dirt track, making it suitable for runners of all abilities – whether chasing a PB or enjoying the views.

Organisers are encouraging participants to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, take in the beautiful Yorkshire scenery, and stay for a post-race slice of cake.
