Trails For The Whole Family
This family-friendly trail running festival will be a summer hit!
We've brought you news of the Wild G.O.A.T Festival before, but with spring now well and truly here you may well be making those all important summer plans. I know chat in our household has been of nothing else over the last week or so...
To go abroad, or to stay home. If COVID taught us anything it is that there is no shame in a UK-based adventure and when we're only talking a weekend, if the weather's really rubbish it's not the end of the world!
The new sporting weekend will be based in the Lake District and is organised by the team behind Kielder Marathon and Durham City Run Festival. Taking place 11-13 August with fun challenges planned for all ages, the festival will be set at the stunning Holker Hall & Gardens near Cartmel.
Those attending will enjoy fantastic trail events on bike or foot with some of sports' greatest athletes at their side! Yes, G.O.A.T is a reference to the attendance of some of the UK's Greatest Of All Time personalities, just in case you didn't quite get the meaning.
Holker Hall will provide a brilliant base for some amazing routes around the stunning peninsula. Taking in both coastal views and the beautiful fells that are synonymous with the Lakes, attendees will have the chance to explore areas within the estate that aren’t open to the public.
In terms of trail running, there will be events ranging from 5K-30K happening over the course of the weekend with mini, medium and long trail runs all on offer. Paula Radcliffe's Families On Track will also be there and it wouldn't be a festival without the promise of live music, food & drink and fun activities each day.
Asides from the sporting activities and G.O.A.Ts in attendance such as Steve Cram, Paula Radcliffe and Steve Backley, there will also be workshops such as yoga, pilates, strength & conditioning, nutrition, movement and woodland crafts. Carla Molinaro will be one of the speakers there to inspire - and as a record breaking ultra runner, adventurer and running coach it's odds on that's exactly what listening to her talk will do.
For the kids, Terry Deary - author of the Horrible Histories series will also be giving a talk. He's a keen runner, and fantastic story-teller so it's sure to keep the little darlings entertained. Adults too in fact!
So why not check it out, and head to the Lakes for your G.O.A.T weekend? You can find out more at the Wild GOAT Festival website.
