The Four Reservoirs Ultra is a challenging trail running event based at Shotley Bridge in County Durham, with 53K ultra and 25K race options. The routes explore a varied landscape of open moorland, woodland, riverside paths and former railway trails, showcasing the countryside surrounding the Derwent Valley.
The 53K circular route follows the Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way towards Waskerley, Smiddy Shaw and Hisehope reservoirs before passing through Muggleswick and the wooded Derwent Gorge. The 25K shares sections of the ultra route before returning through Ebchester, Hamsterley and the Derwent Walk. Both distances feature varied trail terrain and sustained climbing, creating a demanding but highly scenic running challenge.
Runners are supported by feed stations along the course, with three provided on the ultra and one on the 25K route. Live chip timing records performances, while finishers receive an event medal, T-shirt and refreshments after completing their chosen distance.
