Watergate @ Whitehills 5K is organised by Low Fell Running Club and takes place at Whitehills Nature Park in Wrekenton while Watergate Park is unavailable for organised events. The fast two lap course follows flat gravel trails around the park, using sections of the Wrekenton cross country course while avoiding the steeper hills. A junior 2.5K race is also held before the senior event.
The event is run under UK Athletics rules and includes chip timing for the senior race. All senior finishers receive a commemorative T shirt, while junior finishers receive a medal. The senior race also hosts the NEMAA 5K Championship.
