The Wasdale Horseshoe Fell Race is one of the UK's classic long distance fell races and forms part of the Lakeland Classics Trophy. Starting and finishing at Brackenclose in Wasdale, the 21.1 mile route takes runners over some of the Lake District's highest and most challenging mountains, including Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Pillar.
Classed as an AL category fell race, the course features approximately 9,000 feet of ascent across rugged mountain terrain, requiring strong navigation skills, fell running experience and sound mountain judgement. While sections of the route are marked, competitors must be capable of navigating independently in all weather conditions.
The race is organised by the Cumberland Fell Runners Association under Fell Runners Association rules and is regarded as one of the toughest and most iconic challenges in British fell running. Combining spectacular mountain scenery, technical terrain and significant climbing, the Wasdale Horseshoe remains a landmark event for experienced fell runners.
