Everton Runners

Do You Know Your History?

We find out more about the run that takes participants on a journey through Everton's history...

History buffs, football fans and running lovers will all find something to like about this brilliant event from BTR Liverpool. The If You Know Your History 5K takes participants on a journey from the birthplace of big time football on Merseyside to a glorious finish alongside Goodison Park.

The event starts at the 1787 Lock-Up Tower which is at the heart of Everton FC’s famous badge. The tower stands just inside the modern Everton Park above Netherfield Road South and is the only physical reference to old Everton Village.

Participants will also pass the original Everton Toffee Shop. Long since demolished, the site is marked adjacent to the tower. The event will also take in the site of the former Queen’s Head Hotel where, in November 1879, St Domingo’s FC became Everton FC. The pub was the club’s first official headquarters.

Competitors will run the length of Everton Park towards the Northumberland Terrace entrance, taking in what organisers describe as ‘the greatest view in Liverpool’!

Plenty of other Evertonian sites of interest will be on the route, including Anfield which happened to be Everton FC’s third pitch, where they played for six seasons.

Organisers have said: “Those taking part get the chance to complete a unique route through 141 years of Merseyside football history.”

“Various informational points along the route will be manned by Friends of Everton Park and the Everton FC History Society.”
