The Tunnel Marathon is a unique running event organised by Sussex Trail Events at the UCAP Bunker near Portsmouth, Hampshire. Held entirely underground in a former Royal Navy headquarters, the race takes runners through historic military tunnels around 100 feet below the surface.
The marathon follows a repeated lap course through the bunker, creating an unusual endurance challenge in an enclosed underground setting. Some tunnel sections have ceilings around six feet high, requiring taller runners to duck as they pass through. Headtorches and cycle helmets are mandatory, with the course providing a very different experience from a traditional road or trail marathon.
