The Tinto Hill Race is a long established Scottish hill race organised by Carnethy Hill Running Club, taking runners from the foot of Tinto to the summit and back. The 7K route climbs around 460m and packs a substantial amount of ascent into a relatively short distance, making it a tough but rewarding challenge.
Runners head steadily uphill on good paths and trods before reaching the upper slopes of Tinto, where the course becomes more exposed and the weather can change quickly. The return brings a fast descent back towards the finish, with the combination of steep climbing, open hillside and rapid downhill running creating the distinctive character of the race.
Registration, parking and post race refreshments are based at Damn Delicious, Thankerton Camp Farm, close to the race start. A separate Tinto Junior Hill Race is also held for younger runners, making this a well established day of hill racing beneath one of South Lanarkshire’s best known summits.
