Pumpkin Plod takes place at Ferry Meadows in Nene Park, just a few miles from Peterborough city centre. The flexible timed event has a six hour challenge from 9am and a four hour option from 11am, allowing runners to complete as many laps as they choose.
Runners follow a flat 5.3K multi terrain loop on country park paths, gravel and grass, with the option to rest between laps. Five laps form the standard heavy half marathon and nine laps the standard ultra, with additional laps possible within the available time.
The repeated loop format suits runners targeting anything from 5K and 10K to Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra distances. Navigation is straightforward and runners return regularly to the water and aid station at base camp. Road trainers are generally suitable, although trail shoes may be useful in wetter conditions.
Race HQ and registration are based at the Lakeside Centre, with chargeable parking available at Ferry Meadows. Finishers receive a medal, and as the event is cupless, runners should bring their own bottle or cup for refilling. Its flat traffic free route through Ferry Meadows combines straightforward navigation, regular support and scenic running through the lakeside surroundings of Nene Park.
