The Dark Downs is a night-time 50K trail ultra organised by UK Ultra, starting and finishing at Plumpton Racecourse in the South Downs.
The route begins around sunset and takes runners through the night on a course made up of 95% trail and 5% road. Expect grass trails, farm tracks and forest paths across rolling countryside, with some longer, steeper climbs contributing around 4,400ft of ascent. Despite the elevation, the terrain is predominantly runnable and non-technical.
The route is fully marked with reflective signage and supported by four aid stations. Runners have 12 hours to complete the course and carry GPS trackers throughout. Live chip timing, medical support and free overnight camping at Plumpton Racecourse are included, while finishers receive a bespoke medal.
