Suckley Quarter Marathon

Suckley's Sweet Success

After a fantastic first outing in 2023, this brewery-based multi-terrain event returns in May...

After an extremely successful inaugural event in 2023, the Suckley Quarter Marathon is back for a second outing on 19 May this year. Starting and finishing in a brewery may have something to do with its appeal, but there is no doubt that the fantastic course, superb organisation and memorable goody bag have also played a big part!

The brewery in question is the Hop Shed Brewery & Tap Room in Worcestershire where those taking part are able to buy a post or pre (if you’re brave enough) race beer. The race itself is exactly as the name suggests - a quarter of a marathon, 6.5 miles or 10.55K on a multi terrain course. Following some of the less well known trails, roads, tracks and footpaths through the picturesque village of Suckley through Longley Green - runners will be treated to some spectacular views of the surrounding area.

In the 2023 race, over 150 runners took part. First home was Henry Pugh of Malvern Joggers who completed the course in 40:45 while it was Sarah Armstrong of Malvern Buzzards who was the first woman home in 49:45.

The race was organised for charity with all money raised going to Suckley SPACE, a local community project. Speaking about the 2023 race, organisers said: "£2126.28 went to SPACE for their ambitious ongoing project - to bring new life to the Suckley community."

This is a family friendly running event with a kids race also on offer. Held in enclosed fields, the terrain is undulating trails (a few hills) and covers 2K. All those who take part will receive a handmade medal and sweets.

Back at the brewery post race, runners will receive their goody bag with a medal, water and piece of cake. There will be food available to purchase and plenty of beer for those who want to celebrate their achievement with a swift half.
