The Stone Circle Marathon & Half is a volunteer organised running event based in Gargrave, North Yorkshire, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Created by young runner Erin Carter, the event offers Marathon and Half Marathon distances for runners and long distance walkers, with a strong emphasis on community participation and charitable fundraising.
Starting and finishing at Gargrave Village Hall, the course follows a varied circuit through the surrounding countryside, passing Broughton Stone Circle. The route combines fields, footpaths, canal towpaths and short sections of quiet country roads. Half Marathon participants complete one circuit, while Marathon runners tackle two laps, making the longer distance a substantial endurance challenge across changing surfaces.
Three refreshment stations are provided on each lap, offering drinks and snacks along the route. The event is registered with the Association of Running Clubs and includes first aid cover, changing facilities and baggage storage. Finishers receive a sustainable medal, with Yorkshire tea, homemade cakes and freshly prepared chips providing a distinctive welcome at the finish.
